To get started right away, contact jackerman@GoDistro.com

Eric and his firm will help you protect the valuable rights in your music at reduced rates. For those of you interested in seeking the assistance of an attorney, Eric will charge not more than $210 for his time plus the Copyright filing fee of $35 to advise you, answer any questions, as well as prepare, submit your application, follow up, and, if it is approved, get you back your copyright registration certificate. If for some reason your copyright application is rejected, you can hire Eric for an additional fee to try to overturn the denial.

What is Copyright?

Copyright is a form of legal protection that grants to artists, authors, musicians, and others certain exclusive rights in their original creations.

The Rights Of Copyright Owners

Copyright owners have the exclusive right to do and to authorize others to do any of the following with their work:

  • Make Copies: Only the copyright owner may lawfully copy or reproduce a copyrighted work.
  • Prepare Derivative Works
  • Distribute Copies to the Public
  • Perform Work Publicly
  • Display Work Publicly
  • Perform the musical work by means of a digital audio transmission

Copyright Registration

Although you do not need to do anything formal to claim copyright ownership in your work other than to establish that you created the work, it is still important to obtain federal registration of your copyright with the United States Copyright Office. Your ability to enforce your rights against infringers is strengthened if you register your copyright with the United States Copyright Office.

You can learn more about copyrighting it in the FREE downloadable Music Industry Survivial Guide: The Basics of Copyrighting by Eric Goldberg, an attorney at the Massachusetts based firm Kenney & Sams, P.C. Eric advises clients on issues relating to protection of intellectual property, including trademark and copyright registration and enforcement.

You can always take your newfound knowledge and go it alone.

Of course, it's often a wise decision to have professional help. Seek out a good music and entertainment lawyer.
